Donalds Volvo celebrates 50 years of Volvo loyalty as long-standing customers transition to all-electric EC40

Date Posted: 18 May 2026

Donalds Volvo Ipswich is proud to have supported a remarkable milestone in Volvo ownership, as long-standing customers Bohdan and Marian Antoniw transition from their cherished Volvo Amazon 122S to a fully electric Volvo EC40.

Having owned their Amazon since December 1980, the Antoniw family's story represents nearly five decades of unwavering loyalty to the Volvo brand. Originally purchased from a retailer in Greenwich, the classic four-door saloon became a central part of family life - even bringing their two children home from hospital after birth.

Over 46 years, their Amazon provided dependable service and unforgettable memories, including towing a micro-caravan on extended journeys across the UK and beyond. Carefully maintained throughout its life, the vehicle remains in impressive mechanical condition, standing as a testament to Volvo's enduring engineering and quality.

As their travel ambitions evolved - including plans for extended journeys across Europe - the Antoniws began to consider a modern vehicle offering enhanced comfort, efficiency and capability. Inspired by their son Thomas, a Volvo driver based in New York, they chose to remain with the brand they trust, stepping confidently into electrification with the Volvo EC40.

The fully electric EC40 delivers a premium driving experience, combining coupe-SUV styling with up to 345 miles of range, making it ideally suited to long-distance travel while supporting a more sustainable future.

A proud moment for Donalds Volvo

Donalds Volvo Ipswich was delighted to play a key role in this significant transition, handing over the Antoniws' new EC40 and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

At the same time, their much-loved Amazon begins its own journey. Volvo Car UK has acquired the vehicle for inclusion in its official heritage fleet, where it will undergo a careful, sympathetic restoration to preserve its originality for future generations.

This unique moment reflects both the heritage and future for Volvo Cars - seamlessly connecting decades of loyal ownership with the brand's ambition to become fully electric.

Reflecting on the transition, Bohdan Antoniw said:

"We will miss the Amazon because it has been part of our family for so long and is fun to drive. But it feels like the right time for a change and to embrace electric. If cars have a spirit, we like to think it would be happy knowing a new generation has taken its place."

Driving the future, together.

Stories like the Antoniws' are at the heart of everything we do at Donalds Volvo. They demonstrate the deep connection customers have with the brand - built on safety, trust and quality - and how those values continue to resonate as Volvo moves towards a fully electric future.

We are proud to support our customers at every stage of their journey, from classic models that defined generations to the innovative electric vehicles shaping tomorrow.
